Bulgarian President renews invitation to Pope Benedict XVI to visit Bulgaria

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev has renewed the invitation to Pope Benedict XVI to visit Bulgaria.

In a private talk, held in the frames of the traditional audience given by the Pope to the Bulgarian president and the delegation he heads on May 24, Rosen Plevneliev has invited Pope Benedict XVI on a visit to our country.

The invitation was also made before the Cardinals in the Vatican.

“Our invitation is open, Bulgaria is with open doors, as well as the hearts of the Bulgarians,” Plevneliev remarked after the audience.

In his words, Bulgaria is not only an island of stability but it was also possible to send a strong message to all people in the world through Bulgaria.

Pope Benedict XVI thanked for the invitation and said he would consider it very carefully.

“He knows that the Bulgarians want him to visit our country,” Plevneliev added.

Asked whether Bulgaria will soon commission an ambassador to the Vatican Rosen Plevneliev said the following: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should do its job well. I am impressed by how developed the institutional memory in the Vatican is. Here, it is well known who has done what over the last 1,000 years”.

“Bulgaria has a very good reputation in the Vatican. It is achieved thanks to the efforts of many people, but most of all to what the Bulgarian nation is doing. The Bulgarian nation has much to be proud of. Here in the Vatican we are much acknowledged,” Rosen Plevneliev added.
