A former city lawyer has been awarded a fraction of the £5 million he
was seeking as compensation for abuse he suffered while at a school run
by the Society of Jesus.
Patrick Raggett, 54, was awarded almost £55,000 for years of abuse
inflicted on him in his teenage years by the late Fr Michael Spencer SJ,
a teacher at Preston College, Lancashire.
Mr Raggett said that the
abuse led to long-term psychiatric damage and it prevented him from a
successful career as a lawyer.
In the High Court Lady Justice
Swift said Raggett had "suffered significantly" but said she had been
"unable to accept the claimant's contention that the abuse caused the
loss of his legal career."
