Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic, met the Pope and Vatican officials
during a visit last Monday, helping to sooth tensions over a controversial
monastery.
The monastery in Istria was nationalised under communism and has now
become the subject of dispute between the local diocese and the
religious order it belonged to before the creation of Yugoslavia.
After the meeting the Vatican released a press statement saying:
"Concerning the well-known case of Dajla, the two sides agreed to
resolve the issue as soon as possible, in the spirit of traditional
friendship between the Holy See and the Republic of Croatia."
