A Massachusetts man who is civilly married to another man has filed a
complaint with the state’s Commission Against Discrimination after a
Catholic school rescinded its job offer.
Matthew Barrett said that he had been offered a job as food services
director at Fontbonne Academy in Milton, Massachusetts, and that “the
offer was rescinded only two days later -- once the head of school
realized Barrett had listed his husband as his emergency contact,”
according to a Boston Globe report.
“She said the Catholic religion doesn’t recognize same-sex marriage, and
that was her excuse,” said Barrett. “She said, ‘We cannot hire you.’”
